ABOUT LEANNE EPLEY-PRESSMAN
Waikaitu Ltd was started by my husband as a way to take a waste stream product (invasive seaweed fouling mussel lines and wreaking havoc in our sensitive NZ marine environment) and turn it into something useful for society. Seaweed based Waikaitu products are agricultural supplements that boost crop growth, resilience to soggy and drought conditions and decrease the need for conventional fertiliser nitrates which can poison land, waterways and people. I came from a Corporate Training and Human Resources background, with extensive skills in program management, organizational development and grant-writing. I have always been involved in educational youth programs, exchanges and enterprise in my spare time. I like to think that my current work at Waikaitu has finally put together all the best highlights of past jobs: actively advocating for corporate responsibility, living the positive industry disruption (that seaweed as fertiliser can be to both help aquaculture and agriculture), and finally being sustainable enough to employee some of those youths and changemakers who believe we can do good by doing the right thing - making NZ the clean, green food-producing country we want to be.
