In 2021, The Impact Center joined with The Cobbs Creek Foundation to create an economically sustainable golf and educational campus. The storied Cobbs Creek Golf Course is comprised of 300+ acres bordering the communities of Overbrook, West Philadelphia, and Upper Darby. When it opened in 1916, Cobbs Creek was one of the premier public courses in the country, where men and women of all backgrounds and skill sets could enjoy the game of golf. Particularly notable was that Black players were welcome, and it was the home course where Charlie Sifford, the first Black player on the PGA, began his career. Over the past 60 years this historic course has fallen into disrepair. The Cobbs Creek Foundation is working to restore the course to its former glory, preserving its rich legacy, revitalizing its waterways, and investing in the surrounding community. This community investment will be accomplished by offering vital initiatives on the grounds of the renovated Cobbs Creek Golf Course; to do so a significant component of the project is the building of an Education and Community Engagement Center. The Cobbs Creek Education and Community Engagement Center will be a welcoming, state-of-the-art facility bringing resources, as identified by local stakeholders, to children living in the neighborhoods surrounding the golf course. This community partnership will result in a significant contribution to Philadelphia’s landscape and legacy. Until the Education and Community Engagement Center\'s opening in early 2024, The Cobbs Creek Foundation team will be working tirelessly to bring this vision to fruition.
