ABOUT KURT SALES HONS.PGCM
Accomplished Scientist and industry leader with end-to-end knowledge of the drug discovery and development process, from lead generation to preclinical, early phase clinical and late phase clinical trials. Over the past 27 years I have worked across Biotechnology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Immunology and Regulated Bioanalysis. My experience extends from protein biochemistry, purification and chromatography in the Biotechnology sector, including microbial and yeast fermentation to Molecular and Cellular Biology, drug discovery and development and pre-clinical/clinical safety studies for novel chemical and biological entities. for various disease indications. My journey started out in the Biotechnology sector, identifying, isolating and characterizing novel proteins involved in yeast desiccation tolerance for brewing industry, but changed direction towards medical science and drug discovery. As a Medical Research Council, CANSA and PRF funded Scientist working at the leading edge of novel drug discovery for inflammatory disorders and in collaboration with Pharma Industry and small Biotech’s, my research identified how G protein coupled receptors function in reproductive tract tissues to regulate inflammation, fibrosis and cancer and mapped out the intricate cellular and molecular pathways involved. My career in regulated bioanalysis over the last 9 years across Research and Development, Operations Management in Immunoassay, Immunobiology and Business Development has given me the insight of what is required from a regulatory and bioanalytical perspective to bring new dugs to market. I have a passion for utilizing my breadth of scientific expertise, across multiple disciplines, including Immunology, Immunochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology, to help our clients and sponsors move their drug development programs through the discovery, preclinical and clinical bioanalytical life-cycle. I regularly take part in industry white paper discussions, panel discussions and webinars and co-publish in Bioanalysis to ensure that we are at the forefront of the latest Bioanalytical advances.
