ABOUT KRISTIE TACEY
Tessier Winery is the result of a passion for the art and science of winemaking. Created in 2009, Tessier is a micro winery handcrafting small lots of Pinot Noir, Grenache, Riesling, Gamay Noir, Mourvedre, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. For winemaker Kristie Tacey, sustainability is a priority, not only in choosing vineyards that incorporate such farming practices, but in the footprint the winery leaves in the community and in interactions with others. Her strong relationship with growers in Russian River Valley, the Santa Cruz Mountains, and El Dorado results in high quality fruit, and her minimal winemaking approach allows the grapes and vineyards to speak for themselves. Annual production, though expanded since the inaugural vintage, is still only cases, which allows for unparalleled attention to each wine. You can find Tessier in a growing number of restaurants and shops in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Michigan, and via the Tessier Research Club. Kristie Tacey, winemaker and founder of Tessier Winery, started out in the research science field studying protein pathways at the University of Michigan Medical Center. She migrated to the San Francisco Bay Area to pursue a career in biotechnology. In she worked on the Human Genome Project and later focused on central nervous system diseases. She was published several times in her field. It was around this time that she was introduced to the world of wine and winemaking. Discovering what she saw as the perfect blend of science and artistry, Kristie knew she’d found her true calling, and jumped into the field with both feet.
