As the Chief of Staff of Thread I am tasked with driving strategy and operational excellence via a diverse charter that includes: leading Thread’s annual strategic planning rhythm, conducting operational reviews, crafting staff communications, and updating workflows. I provide insight and advice to the leadership team around operational excellence, headcount, resourcing, fiscal planning and overall strategy.About Thread: Thread harnesses the power of relationships to create a new social fabric of diverse individuals deeply engaged with young people facing the most significant opportunity and achievement gaps. The organization annually enrolls about 7% of all Baltimore City Public School traditional high school ninth-graders, from seven schools, who are academically under-performing (GPA\'s less than 1.0). Thread commits to those young people for 10 years. Thread has defined the Thread Engagement Process for building relationships across lines of difference: connect, set goals, identify & remove barriers, and achieve the goals. To support this process at scale, they created, deployed, and refined tools—a mobile app and curriculum—to drive repeatable behaviors that result in replicable outcomes. Students and volunteers also receive training and ongoing coaching to sharpen their ability to bridge and bond. Historically, ninth-graders with GPAs below 1.0 graduate at a rate of 6% in Baltimore. Thread’s students outperform their peers with an overall graduation rate of 67%.As a community, Thread is committed to ending social isolation and building a more equitable culture in which everyone thrives.
