Barber Faculty of ScienceDepartment of BiologyCourse Name:\"Environmental Microbiology”Course Code: BIOL 381Course Description:The course covers fundamental topics with a focus on environmental science and its applications, including the chemistry of life; the fundamentals of microbial metabolism, anabolism, and catabolic diversity; ecological concepts and microbial ecosystems; engineered microbial ecosystems; the microbiological aspects of drinking water purification and wastewater treatment; and microbial bioremediation.Course Objectives:• Transfer of fundamental knowledge on microbial metabolism and major microbial catabolic pathways,• Transfer of fundamental knowledge on the properties and microbial diversity of major microbial ecosystems,• To introduce the basic principles of nutrient cycles in nature and the role of microbes that catalyze them.• To introduce the fundamental principles of drinking water and wastewater treatment, including the role of microorganisms in the microbiology of water and wastewater.
