ABOUT KELLY METROKA KERSHAW

As a cardiac technologist with 13+ years of experience, I am highly skilled at working in a fast paced critical thinking environment. I have excellent time management & “multi-tasking” skills. More importantly, I have cultivated genuine relations with my co-workers & physicians & clients. I have volunteered to work at multiple Sentara cath labs, the endovascular lab, & the electrophysiology lab. To challenge myself further, I decided in June 2016 to leave Sentara and start traveling. I packed up my tiny car and drove west to Jackson, Tennessee. I had the opportunity to work in a fast paced, high volume cath lab. 6 labs supported a 600+ bed hospital and 19 surrounding counties. After 13 weeks in Tennessee, I drove south to Stuart, Florida. Even though this facility only had two labs, a typical day consisted of 6-9 cases per day.per lab. Another busy lab left me little time to experience the “traveler” life, but exposed me to more complex cases. I reluctantly left sunny Florida & finally headed to Salisbury, North Carolina. I finally felt at home as a traveler. I did heart caths, but ventured to CT and scrubbed peripheral cases & interventional radiology procedures. I found my second home. Those 15 months MADE me grow. It was not easy. It was not easy to be away from home, alone for holidays & birthdays, and have to introduce yourself again & again, and try to make an impression & gain trust e v e r y 13 weeks. Kinda like ground hogs day. However, e v e r y single place I went, I was asked to stay. I’ve been asked to come back! And that makes me happy. It means—I did my job. I bloomed where I was planted, e v e r y single time. I stepped out of my comfort zone. I lived for me.
