ABOUT KELLY CARBERY
I received my undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies from Washington University in I remained at Washington University for two years in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Analytical Geochemistry Laboratory and Stable Isotopes Laboratory before taking a position at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Science (BIOS). At BIOS my focus involved the distribution and toxicity of organics/trace metal contaminants in the marine ecosystems and ground waters. I was heavily involved with analyzing ground waters for pesticides, investigating the toxicity of antifouling biocides, and biomarker studies in conjunction with the UN Rapid Assessment of Marine Pollution program as part of the International Center for Ocean and Human Health. I went back to University in pursuit of my graduate degree, spending time in the University of Puerto Rico’s Aquaculture and Biogeochemistry Laboratories. In 2004, I received funding for a grant investigating the distribution and impact of triazine constituents in anti-fouling paints on inshore marine communities, and the development/incorporation of bioassays for assessment of marine pollution. Immediately prior to joining Monsanto, I spent time in the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences at Washington University School of Medicine. There I focused on research pertaining to cellular signaling and senescence. My goal in this position was to gain a better understanding how cellular lifespan is controlled at the molecular level, as well as developing my knowledge of cell signaling pathways.In my early roles at Monsanto, I was part of the Innovation & Next Generation Solutions Team within Monsanto’s Molecular Breeding Technology Program. Our multidisciplinary team aimed to identify, develop, and implement next generation technologies. Subsequently, with Bayer Crop Science, I led the sequencing and genotyping detection teams within our Precision Genomics Biotechnology program. After 10 years in Biotechnology, I moved to the Breeding program to lead the Production Insights and Optimization Team. The focus of our team was to increase our efficiency at our global protected culture, processing, and field sites. We primarily focus on operations research, as well as automated systems development and deployment.Currently, I work in modeling and analytics for our North America supply chain management team, supporting our data and digital enablement groups within the Product Supply organization.
