ABOUT KATIE SIMMONS
I am a student at Auburn University from Birmingham, AL pursuing a degree in public relations. I will graduate in May 2024 and am excited to use my passion for communications in the workforce. I fell in love with public relations through my classes and involvement at Auburn University. From my first Foundations of Public Relations class, I knew I was in the right place. Since that class almost two years ago, I have jumped head first into the world of PR and started a job at the Auburn Office of Communications and Marketing as a PR intern. In this job I am gaining valuable PR work experience by writing press releases, running social media accounts, and being mentored by industry professionals. Additionally, at the end of 2022 I accepted a leadership role with The Oaks Agency, Auburn\'s student-run PR firm. I serve as the Earned Media Executive Chair where I mentor committee members in professional PR writing skills and practices. Some of my jobs include media pitching, editing for AP style, and communicating with clients. In my free time, I enjoy being a part of my sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, where I have served as the director of philanthropy raising money for juvenile arthritis research.
