ABOUT KATIE FORAN
With 14 years of experience as a Scrum Master, IT Project Coordinator, and IT Operations Engineer, I have come to believe that building self-sustaining, empowered, and highly motivated teams is the foundation for doing meaningful work in the world. Beyond my professional life, I am passionate about being an active peacemaker in her local community and empowering justice seekers and peacemakers globally. I currently lives in Northern Virginia and enjoys spending her free time dog-sitting for friends and family or singing in my local choir. There are many important elements to the Scrum framework, but the key ones I always emphasize first are: • Establish a collaborative team culture for collocated and distributed teams. This requires creating a psychologically safe space for people to provide feedback. • Personally exhibit and encourage the positive attitude of Kaizen, continuous but sustainable improvement. • Create and facilitate effective horizontal and vertical escalation pathways to key decision makers and stakeholders to mitigate workflow constraints and risks. • Always have fun. Teams that do not enjoy their work and working together will never reach operational excellence.
