ABOUT KATIE FETZER
Dr. Fetzer is an assistant professor at the University of the Cumberlands, and is also a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor, currently practicing in the private practice setting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dr. Fetzer is the co-owner and co-founder of a mental health practice, The Wellness Studio, which currently has two locations in Louisiana. In 2017, Dr. Fetzer’s mental health practice was the recipient of the radiance award granted by Family Road of Baton Rouge for their mental health services provided to the local community. Dr. Fetzer has 10 years of post-graduate clinical experience working as a professional counselor in both inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance abuse settings. Prior to her current position with the University of the Cumberlands, Dr. Fetzer served as an adjunct professor in the Counselor Education Department at University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she taught multicultural counseling coursework. Dr. Fetzer has 3 years of international teaching experience in the role as a doctoral student teaching assistant (TA) and has presented at conferences both locally and internationally on topics related to globalization and mental health policy. Dr. Fetzer has also guest lectured for Southern University Law School in efforts to train first year law students in multiculturalism to increase multicultural competency and awareness in their legal work. Dr. Fetzer’s certifications include ASIST suicide prevention, psychological first aid, and Non violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention. Her research interests include mental health policy, racial equity, creativity in counseling, as well as globalization of mental health and the counseling profession. Dr. Fetzer’s current research projects are focused on racial identity development and assessment. Dr. Fetzer’s most recent research project examined the policymaking experiences and perspectives of state-level policymakers’.
