ABOUT KATHRYN M. DOWNING
I practice in these areas: as a coaching supervisor, an executive coach, as an External Mentor Coach for the Hudson Institute of Coaching and Faculty for CSA-UK and Asia Pacific. I am also on the eve of completing the professional doctorate programme at Middlesex University (London, having submitted my thesis, and defended it with the examiners. Almost complete: Doctorate in Professional Studies (DProf in Coaching Supervision). Coaching supervision is a reflective practice for coaches to reflect on and about one’s body of work as a coach. Core values in this work are that, as coaches, we are in service to our clients and by deepening our personal awareness we are able to deepen our professional presence and capabilities. As a coaching supervisor, I engage with coaches either one on one or in small groups to learn and develop professionally and personally. As Edna Murdoch says, “Who you are is how you coach™.” My executive coaching practice is in working with leaders on the edge of greatness, leaders who are in transition to new ways of leading and living, and participants in the Hudson Institute of Coaching programs. My process is heart-led and uses a blend of intuition and process. As an executive coach, I draw on the knowledge and perspectives gained from more than 30 years of leadership experience in the business world, as well as in non-profits, and as an individual who has made significant career and personal transitions. As a business executive, the focus was on leading the financial turnaround and cultural transformation of professional publishing companies including the Los Angeles Times as its Publisher, President, and CEO. My work is informed by deep reflection and integration of vulnerability, authenticity, resiliency, and wholehearted living in The Daring Way. The Daring Way™ is a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. I love to play, laugh, walk on the beach, and hang out with family and dear friends. My passions include travel, cooking, learning, creating, hiking, and beach walks.
