Following more than four decades at Simon Fraser University in research, policy, and academic administration, I am now focused on creating spaces for meaningful conversations that foster community connection and social impact.I see my role primarily as a connector and facilitator, creating informal spaces where individuals from different backgrounds and life stages can exchange ideas and explore initiatives that strengthen our communities. Conversations may explore themes such as: • life transitions and retirement • community leadership and volunteerism • intergenerational learning • purpose and well-being in later stages of life • building stronger communities through dialogue My long association with Simon Fraser University—as both a student and staff member—has given me a unique perspective on academic careers, institutional change, and life transitions. Many valuable ideas and initiatives emerge not in formal settings, but through thoughtful conversation.

ABOUT KARIM DOSSA
Over time I’ve come to believe that meaningful change often begins with simple conversations that bring people together.After more than four decades at Simon Fraser University—as a student, researcher, and academic administrator—I now find myself drawn to facilitating the kinds of conversations that strengthen communities and create opportunities for shared learning.Until February 2026, I served as Director, Faculty Relations Systems at Simon Fraser University, where I provided strategic leadership on faculty compensation systems, academic policy, and faculty career progression. My work combined data analysis, policy interpretation, and governance processes to support evidence-informed decision-making in complex academic environments.Earlier in my career, I spent more than a decade as a Senior Research Associate with SFU’s Centre for Tourism Policy and Research, assembling and analyzing large datasets and co-authoring research on tourism markets and visitor behaviour.My interest in academic career systems led me to pursue a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership at Simon Fraser University, completed in 2022. My doctoral research examined how universities and faculty navigate retirement decision-making following the elimination of mandatory retirement.Alongside my professional work, I have remained deeply engaged in community leadership through youth sports organizations, education initiatives, and service within the Ismaili community.Now in retirement, I focus on bringing people together to exchange ideas and explore initiatives that strengthen communities, often by creating informal spaces for thoughtful conversation and shared reflection.I am especially interested in conversations that connect people from different stages of life and professional backgrounds—including members of the Ismaili community, retirees from Simon Fraser University, and others interested in mentorship, volunteerism, and community engagement.Many valuable insights and initiatives emerge not from formal structures, but from thoughtful conversations and shared reflection—and those conversations often become the starting point for meaningful community action.
