I set up Crone Club to help combat my creeping fear of getting older as a woman and the terror of menopause. As you approach 50, you become so engulfed in the fear-based patriarchal narrative of what your life will be (or rather NOT be!) as an older woman, and I was conscious of the negative impact it was having, not just on women like myself entering menopause, but also on our younger generations who are made to feel they have to ‘fight the signs of ageing’ at all costs.We want to remove the fear of getting older, and make female ageing and menopause a club that women feel proud to join. We aim to seek out some of the joys of getting older as a woman, and have fun celebrating these stories in creative and mischievous ways.HOW?#1. BUILD THE CRONE COMMUNITY to help women in midlife feel happier and more positive and co-create some creative content. We are doing this online through our Facebook group, Crone Club website, insta, and this year ran a \'Crone Camp\' experiment in North Wales. 2023 we are exploring a more formal crone club membership/patreon offer and crone merch.#2. TAKE THE POSITIVE NARRATIVE WIDERFace-to-face events that hold the space for older women to share their stories with younger women/general public and national media such as our CRONE HUMAN LIBRARY in partnership with the University of Sheffield. Currently seeking funding to convert this into Crone Digital Library so can take those conversations wider, use as a resource for schools etc.#3.
