ABOUT JULIE MEADE

My career journey has equipped me with a variety of unique experiences. After I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience & Behavior, I worked in a government research facility for two years, followed by six years in an academic research lab. My personal mission to reduce health disparities in underserved populations has driven my research endeavors. My PhD dissertation involved developing a translational animal model of the side effects of a common chemotherapeutic used in cancers that primarily affect individuals assigned female at birth. To further my research, I took formal coursework and self-guided study in grant writing, successfully applying for and receiving several grants, including an F31-Diversity.Outside of the wet lab, I managed a portfolio of grants, met with policymakers at Capitol Hill to advocate for research, built relationships with stakeholders across academic institutions and government agencies, published research in peer-reviewed journals, mentored colleagues, trained new employees, managed volunteers, started a science blog and short-form podcast, and prepared annual reports. I have also been a guest speaker at high schools, universities, and Rotary Clubs. After PhD graduation, I joined a private company for a little less than one year as a medical editor, then joined my current position at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. As a Scientific Writer at BMS, I coordinate matrix teams of international stakeholders during the authoring of clinical trial documents, ensuring the integration of scientific, medical, and regulatory input. My role involves managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and coordinating with other departments. I am regularly recognized for excellence in my role, demonstrating my motivation and ability to work effectively in a remote environment with limited supervision. At BMS, I have taken on leadership roles in the Disability Advancement Workplace Network (DAWN). As a Global Communications Lead, I prepared, reviewed, and distributed DAWN communications, such as stories and fact sheets, and have collaborated with Corporate Communications to prepare content for external social media and the public-facing BMS website. I have also managed complex, bicoastal outreach events in collaboration with government and for-profit organizations, creating surveys to assess impact, analyzing results, and modifying future events to increase their effectiveness.I am currently studying for Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, which will further enhance my project management skills.
