In the Summer of 2022, I joined a large-scale project aiming to look at the relationship between network structure and activity in the mouse visual cortex. I analyzed the correlation structure of the responses and extracted Hebbian cell assemblies using machine learning tools. In the preliminary results, I was able to determine that a discrete set of clusters fit the data better than a continuum and presented a poster to the institute.I have continued with the analysis following preliminary results revealing that assembly membership is a strong predictor of connectivity. I hope to publish in the following months a finalized analysis of the continuum vs discrete cluster description of the activity using correlation-based measures, an analysis of differences between assembly detection algorithms and simple hierarchical clustering, as well as finalized results over the significance of assembly assignment concerning the prediction of structural synaptic connectivity between neurons.
