I am a board member and founder of the South Yorkshire Youth Mayoral Combined Authority, a group that helps to scrutinise the SYMCA and offers the ability for the young people of South Yorkshire to have direct involvement in key decision-making. A big achievement whilst in the post has been lobbying the mayor, Dan Jarvis, to introduce lower fares for those aged 18-21, which occurred when the Zoom Beyond pass was introduced in 2021. This has since been extended upon further campaigning from our group to the incumbent mayor Oliver Coppard.We wanted to introduce this pass, which reduces the fare for those 18-21 to just 80p, in order to improve social mobility for young people in Sheffield. It can help people get to work easier when they\'re just getting on the career ladder, help them get to where they\'re studying (especially if they are not eligible for an NUS student £1.20 student fare if they are doing a college or apprenticeship course!), and supports the local economy by empowering young people to go out and socialise! In June 2021, it was projected that, in a year, the introduction of the pass would create one million new bus and tram journeys across South Yorkshire by June 2022. However, this target was instead met at the start of 2022, showing just how powerful this pass has been as a piece of policy. It is one of my greatest achievements in my career. The fare has increased in late 2023, though I continue to campaign to keep the Zoom fare in line with the child’s fare, along with pushing for an integrated, regionally-owned public transport system in my county.

ABOUT JUDE DANIEL SMITH
My name is Jude, and I\'m from Sheffield in the North of England. For seven years, I have been working in the youth sector, with my work so far being focused on ensuring young people feel enabled to engage with their democracy and the community which creates it. In addition, I am well versed in transport planning and metropolitan governance. My own research informs the work I do with other young people, having had my findings published in a multitude of prominent academic journals such as \'The environmentalSCIENTIST\', the \'FORUM\' teaching journal,\'Testing Ground\' and many more. The topics I most frequently cover include climate teaching and pedagogy, the development of a \'green economy\', youth disenfranchisement in society and the impact of public policy on young people\'s development. I am also a climate professional, having helped to establish the influential Teach the Future campaign (aiming to ensure all UK students receive comprehensive climate education), along with my work with the Regional Youth Climate Assembly - a body aiming to represent climate issues across Yorkshire and Humber whilst ensuring young people are empowered to play a part in the implementation of solutions to the climate emergency. With this group, our film \'The Ripple Effect\' was shown at COP26, where I led a panel discussion on young people\'s involvement in tackling climate change, making me the youngest ever COP event facilitator. I was also a Communications Specialist for A Fleet for Change, aiming to provide the first on-demand transport system in Sheffield, bolstering social and geographical mobility for people across our city. I have extensive experience in managing campaigns - in 2021, I led a campaign to implement a new concessionary fare in South Yorkshire to support young people\'s social mobility (the Zoom Beyond travel pass). In 2020, with Teach the Future, I helped ensure £1 billion was designated to retrofit public buildings to be net zero in the Autumn financial statement, including a pilot scheme of 50 schools. In my current role with Climate Live UK, I am aiming to use the power of live music to platform the work of grassroots youth climate action groups. I manage volunteers, develop digital campaigns and work every day with the heavy-hitters of the music industry to make music greener. Currently, I study Economics and Politics at the University of Bristol, aiming to graduate with a BSc with Honours in Summer 2027.
