ABOUT JONATHAN STAAL
Student Services manager in higher education with responsibilities for learner development. Established a retention-focused learner development team and quickly built it into an integral part of Student Services and the university as a whole, with strong buy-in from teaching staff and students. Recently added the Disability Service to my remit.Also responsible for central widening participation activities at the university. With a mission as relevant as ever but rapidly decreasing resources, I have developed a strong reputation as an innovator, testing new all based on a theme of combining access to higher education with enterprise and employability. Currently working with a local community-based enterprise facilitation project on a new project - Skills Exchange.Strong, successful track-record of management built on broad foundations, including a practical on-job training as secretary to a range of university management committees and, more formally, through my Masters in Public Administration.My current role allows me to explore twin goals of: furthering my work in student support; and engaging with charities, social enterprises and other community-based organisations to support people to maximise their potential.Specialties: Higher education, student support, widening participation, social enterprise, management.
