The Knowledge Centre for Materials Chemistry is a collaboration between several leading universities and the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, which connects the UK\'s materials and chemical industry with capabilities in the research base to solve problems and support innovation. As part of STFC\'s contribution to this collaboration, I am part-time seconded into the team of knowledge transfer managers, to engage proactively with businesses and share my understanding of the materials research ecosystem, specifically with respect to the areas of digital-first approaches, which may be used for gaining understanding, predicting properties or developing new capabilities within chemicals and materials intensive businesses. More broadly though, together we act as a \'front door\' to the wider advanced materials research network, especially in the North West and North East.

ABOUT JONATHAN SMITH

I\'ve published as a scientist, designed high quality products as an engineer and worked in exciting research fields such as computational plasma and particle accelerator physics, and electronic device manufacturing.I, together with my colleagues, help businesses apply disruptive advances in data science, AI, supercomputing and quantum computing to help companies at all stages of their growth, and in a diverse range of sectors, develop and operate more efficiently and more productively. I have a specific interest in aerospace, materials, nuclear, space and most things applied physics, but am well placed to help people access the world class facilities hosted by STFC in other sectors.
