ABOUT JOHN VOIGHT

Most nurses go into healthcare to heal people. I went in after the Army and a career in law enforcement — and it changed how I see everything about patient safety, leadership, and what it actually takes to protect the people doing the hardest work in healthcare.I\'m the Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, a 500-bed Level 2 Trauma Center and one of Vizient\'s Top 10 academic medical centers in the country. We hold Magnet Recognition with Distinction — a designation that reflects what happens when nursing culture, leadership, and clinical excellence are built intentionally over time. But the work I\'m most focused on right now is workplace violence prevention.Healthcare workers are assaulted at work at a rate that would shut down any other industry. We\'ve normalized it. We call it \"part of the job.\" We write policies and check boxes and move on. I don\'t accept that — and I\'ve spent years building the systems, training programs, and cultural frameworks that actually change the numbers. That work led me to found Blue Scrubs Strategy Group, a healthcare consulting firm that helps hospitals and health systems build safer environments for their nurses, staff, and patients. We work on WPV prevention, nursing leadership development, clinical innovation, and the gap between what a healthcare organization says its culture is and what it actually is.My background is different from most CNOs. I served in the U.S. Army. I worked in law enforcement. I came to nursing through emergency care and have led through crises that tested every bit of that experience. I bring all of it into how I lead, how I consult, and what I post here.On LinkedIn, I write about nursing leadership, workplace violence prevention, and the real conversations healthcare executives need to be having but often aren\'t.If you\'re a nursing leader, healthcare executive, or someone working on making care environments safer — follow along or reach out directly.
