ABOUT JOHN R. SEDY
I am an experienced immunologist and team leader with a passion for discovery oriented research. I direct experimental studies using diverse molecular and cellular systems and in experimental models of immunology and inflammation in vivo. I am excited to have been part of teams that have brought novel immune modulators to the clinic and look forward to future cutting edge drug discovery research.I started my career journey with my PhD in Immunology at Washington University in St Louis where I discovered the unique interaction between the checkpoint immune modulator BTLA and its ligand the TNF receptor family member HVEM. I spent the next several years as a postdoctoral fellow and research assistant professor studying the biology of this receptor-ligand network and ultimately collaborated with several pharmaceutical companies to develop drugs targeting the BTLA receptor.I am very proud to have seen my academic work translate to clinical trials and potentially be of real benefit in people. I am continuing my journey of drug discovery at AnaptysBio where I am pursuing development of therapeutic antibodies that target diverse signaling pathways in both pathogenic and regulatory immune cells to treat disease.StrengthsProject and Team Leadership:Research Plan development and execution, Project presentation to internal and external collaborative partners and project stakeholders, Experimental design and analysis, Project management, Communication of research results and manuscript preparation, Supervision and Mentorship of staff, Training of junior scientistsExperimental Techniques and Analysis:Oversight and experience in Antibody and Biologic expression, humanization, and deimmunization; Cell biology functional assay development and execution (high dimensional flow cytometry, proliferation, cytokine expression, cytotoxicity); Transcriptomics (QPCR, RNAseq, DESeq2); Proteomics (western, ELISA, protein ID, phospho-protein MS); Inflammatory Disease models in vivo (PSO, IBD, MS, GvHD, SLE); Statistical analysis (R, Prism)
