ABOUT MAGDA MARQUET

Dr. Magda Marquet is a serial entrepreneur in life sciences with a strong record of success. She is the co-founder of ALMA Life Sciences, LLC, an early stage investment firm creating and growing innovative healthcare companies. In 1998, she started her first company, Althea Technologies, which became a leading provider of contract services to the biotech industry worldwide. Althea was successfully acquired in 2013 by the Japanese group Ajinomoto. She also co-founded a spinoff operation, AltheaDX, a molecular diagnostics company specializing in personalized medicine and pharmacogenomics to treat patients with anxiety and depression (acquired by Castle Biosciences). She currently serves on the boards of Arcturus Therapeutics (ARCT), AnaptysBio (ANAB), Transcode Therapeutics (RNAZ) and Immix Biopharma (IMMX) as well as on the boards of several private companies.Prior to founding Althea Technologies, she held several management positions at companies such as Amylin Pharmaceuticals and Vical where she developed and patented novel clinical production methods for gene therapy and DNA vaccines. Magda is very active in the non-profit arena and plays a pivotal role in developing San Diego’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, serving on the boards of BIOCOM and UCSD Moores Cancer Center. Magda holds a doctorate in biochemical engineering from INSA/University of Toulouse, France. She has received numerous prestigious awards throughout her career including the 2005 Regional Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and the Director of the Year award (Corporate Governance). In 2016, Magda was inducted into the CONNECT Entrepreneur Hall of Fame.
