ABOUT JOHN CARETHERS
Dr. John Carethers is the Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences at UC San Diego, a multibillion-dollar organization that encompasses UC San Diego Health — the region\'s only academic health system — three professional schools, 20+ degree programs, and 90+ core facilities. With more than 1,800 faculty and staff, the health sciences is home to nationally recognized academic and clinical programs, and has been identified as one of the premier biomedical research institutions in the world. Dr. Carethers is a trained gastroenterologist and physician-scientist. His research lies in the area of hereditary colon cancer genetics, colon cancer disparities, and colon cancer screening. He has been continuously funded by the NIH for nearly 30 years and has published over 250 manuscripts and book chapters.
