ABOUT JIM MACGILLIVRAY MENG
An experienced Power Systems engineer and manager with over 38 years in the electricity industry. Until recently, all with SSEN. In the field of Connections for the last 20 years, most recently worked as SME on the project to replace our connections quotation and CRM system. In October 2023, moved to a new role as HV Delivery Manager in offshore wind with SSE Renewables, managing internal and contractor SAP resources for offshore windfarms, handed over to O&M. Formerly a manager of teams providing connections quotations for SHEPD at a time when the connections process was under significant change. I have developed a wide range of skills over my 35+year career as a result of formal training and many experiences. My achievements include: • Management of the Distributed Generation Connections Team in Scotland for a number of years, at a time that connections applications were growing exponentially. Complex and novel challenges frequently presented in this work stream, requiring creative and flexible problem solving.• Completion of both BEng(hons) and MEng with the Open University, on a distance learning basis whilst employed full-time.• Whilst employed as Business Development Manager in the central belt of Scotland, secured utility contracts for a number of the largest Commercial projects being built at that time throughout Scotland, to be operated as Embedded networks (IDNO/IGT). A deep technical understanding of utilities construction and operations provided an excellent understanding of the products.• Full Distribution SAP from LV to EHV (incl. SFT) for 35+ years, Engineering/Managers standby role and Business HV Assessor (SAPs) for SSEN. I enjoy making new connections from across the utilities sectors and I’m actively looking to expand my network on LinkedIn.
