Physician specializing in diagnosing & managing complex, poorly-understood, and post-infectious illnesses (even before the pandemic). My philosophy is to seek the root cause of an illness whenever possible, but not at the expense of delaying treatment for a suffering patient when enough is known to indicate a therapeutic category with high likelihood of efficacy for the category of illness and acceptable risks.I\'m big on the patient-doctor relationship being an open and collaborative one. People who live with unusual, rare, or poorly understood illnesses are a wealth of insights and information not only about their condition, but about the cracks in the healthcare system. I co-founded RTHM to create the healthcare system I wish existed for the patients I see: one where the relationship between patients and their care team is collaborative (and as ego-less as possible), important insights and data from testing and treatment responses are captured and used to inform decisions for patients with similar clinical and molecular phenotypes, and knowledge in nuanced individualized management can be transferred quickly between providers without the need for years of experience to have good outcomes with complex patients.
