In addition to my role as Professor, I have been appointed as a Scholar-in-Residence at Destination BC where I work on research and strategy projects involving resident perceptions of tourism, tourism marketing/management, employee engagement, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). Within industry, I sit on the Industry Advisory Council of the BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF), the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Reconciliation (DEIR) Committee of the Tourism Industry Association of BC (TIABC), and the Advisory Committee for the School of Hospitality & Tourism at Selkirk College. I received my Ph.D. in Tourism Management from Clemson University, Master of Natural Resources in Natural Resource Recreation & Tourism, Master of Education in Sport Management, and Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Geography degrees from the University of Georgia. My previous and current research includes using quantitative and qualitative methodologies to study event sustainability, festivals and events, 2SLGBTQ+ tourism, craft beer tourism, social constructs and resident impacts in tourism, wine tourism, millennials, sustainable coastal tourism development, marketing, and professional sports scheduling. Most recently, my work has been published in the Journal of Policy Research in Tourism, Leisure, & Events, Tourism Analysis, Event Management, International Journal of Tourism Research, Journal of Convention & Event Tourism, Journal of Outdoor Recreation & Tourism, and Journal of Foodservice Business Research. Prior to becoming a University Professor, I co-founded Looking Glass Strategic Research Consultants, a research and consulting firm in the tourism and hospitality industry. I have also worked in professional golf event management, university athletics, and ski resort recreation in various roles.
