As a Transition Services Specialist, I run operations for DOD\'s Transition Assistance Program (formerly known as SFL-TAP). By Congressional mandate, all soldiers must complete our curriculum before leaving military service. We conduct classes on career exploration, writing resumes, developing budgets, interviewing skills, vocational training, higher education, starting a business, Veterans Administration benefits, crafting a federal resume, and negotiating salaries. We typically counsel 20-30 soldiers per day and run about 38 weeklong classes per year with 35 students each week. Liaison with the Department of Labor, Veterans Administration, the Small Business Administration, Disabled American Veterans, the VFW, universities, trade unions and employers. I arrange for guest speakers, schedule classes and instructors, interact with other government agencies, arrange in-person and virtual events, and connect soldiers with job opportunities. I manage our Facebook and LinkedIn pages.

ABOUT JANICE W.
I am the Assistant Manager for the Army Transition Assistance Program (TAP) on Fort Wainwright, AK. My primary responsibilities are operations, training, and course administration. Previously, I was the Site Manager for the USO Transition program for the state of Alaska. I retired from the Alaska Army National Guard after 20 years of service as a 35D Military Intelligence Officer (Major/O4). I was an elected Assemblywoman in Fairbanks and have extensive government policy experience. I have a BA in Media Studies, a BA in Political Science, and a Master\'s Degree in Public Administration.
