ABOUT JAMES PLOTKIN

I am a bijural litigation and disputes lawyer based in Ottawa, Ontario. I act before all levels of court, international and domestic arbitral tribunals and administrative bodies. My main practice areas are commercial arbitration and litigation, intellectual property litigation, franchise, and public/administrative law. My diverse practice covers other areas, including bankruptcy/insolvency, procurement, construction and general civil litigation. In addition to my counsel work, I am a Qualified Arbitrator (Q.Arb) by the ADR Institute of Canada. I have been appointed as an arbitrator and accept appointments for commercial and IP-related matters. I am also a rostered domain name dispute adjudicator with the Canadian International Internet Dispute Resolution Centre (CIIDRC) and Resolution Canada. I have written broadly on international and domestic commercial arbitration and intellectual property law (copyright, trademark and domain name dispute resolution), among other areas. I am currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Intellectual Property Review (CIPR). I co-author \"Arbitration Legislation of Ontario: A Commentary\", which provides commentary and analysis on Ontario\'s domestic and international arbitration legislation. I also co-authored “The International Commercial Arbitration Legislation of British Columbia: A Commentary”, a similar text covering B.C.’s enactments of the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards and the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration. Before law, I studied music and graduated with a degree in Jazz guitar, specialization in composition and arranging. I coach the University of Ottawa\'s Willem C.
