As a Communications Executive, I play a key role in shaping the voice of the University of Bristol Students’ Union, ensuring clear, engaging, and impactful communication across multiple platforms. My responsibilities include- Managing media relations, handling both proactive and reactive media enquiries to protect and enhance the SU’s reputation- Writing articles and copywriting for a range of communications, including press releases, newsletters, and student-focused content- Helping with the content review for the SU website, ensuring messaging is clear, relevant, and accessible- Supporting campaign planning, developing strategies to engage students and amplify key initiatives.Through this role, I combine my skills in writing, storytelling, and strategic communication to deliver high-quality content that informs, inspires, and supports the student community.

ABOUT JAKE TAPPING
Jake Tapping is an experienced communicator and storyteller dedicated to amplifying conversations around environmental issues, climate action, and social impact. His work sits at the intersection of science, media, and public engagement, to drive change.Jake holds a First-Class BSc in Zoology from the University of Manchester and a Distinction in MSc Science Communication from the University of Bristol, where he developed expertise in science media, public engagement, and storytelling. His academic background has shaped his ability to communicate complex topics using compelling stories that resonate with wide audiences.Jake is currently a Communications Executive at the University of Bristol Students\' Union, where he creates impact-driven media, shapes meaningful student narratives, and leads campaigns that support and empower students. His expertise in writing, marketing, podcasting, and multimedia storytelling allows him to engage diverse audiences and inspire positive action within the student body.Previously, Jake worked with Freeborne Media as a Podcast Producer, Host, and Editor, leading the production of Voice of Our Oceans, a groundbreaking podcast series for Netflix; Our Oceans. This was the first time a long-form podcast had been developed alongside a natural history documentary, allowing in-depth discussions with leading scientists, filmmakers, and conservationists. The series went beyond the documentary’s message, highlighting the urgent challenges facing our oceans and the people working to protect them.He is also the founder and sole producer of The Paperless Podcast, a show dedicated to student research and proving that academic work is more than just an assignment by engaing in conversations about thier thesis. With a strong background in science communication, journalism, and research, Jake has written a number of articles related to climate and science news, worked with Natural Resources Wales, and conducted important research at Doñana Biological Research Station in Spain.Effective communication is one of the most powerful tools for change. Whether through writing, podcasting, or digital media, Jakes goal is to bridge the gap between science, society, and societal action.
