Jiva is tackling electronic waste (e-waste) with naturally derived printed circuit board (PCB) materials, reducing carbon emissions and Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment levels.62 million tonnes of e-waste were generated in 2022, an 82% increase from 2010. PCBs make up approximately 8-10% of e-waste by weight, however the nature of the fibreglass and epoxy resin incumbent PCB laminates means the shredding and incineration used in the current PCB recycling process is inefficient, energy intensive, costly and polluting. Approximately £8 billion of precious metals from PCBs is sent to landfill annually as a result of the inability to recover them efficiently.Jiva\'s flagship product is Soluboard, the world\'s first fully recyclable PCB laminate. Whilst being fully compatible with industry standard PCB fabrication processes, it is produced using non-toxic natural fibres, biodegradable polymer and non-brominated flame retardant. It can also be recycled in hot water when a PCB is disposed of, offering an efficient precious metal recovery end-of-life solution.
