I’m having the pleasure of directing the creative and brand refresh at historic Thalian Hall, as well as marketing their largest season of Main Attractions. Creative directing brand look and feel, identity, voice, visual direction, video direction, social media strategy, user experience and future of the historic theatre that feels like a second home.(I was actually married on the stage.) This vital community asset is both a nationally registered historic place and the number one historic theatre in America (per Architectural Digest) and a living theatre with cutting edge tech that hosts 700 events per year (yes, that math is mathing - it’s more than one per day). The opportunity was to create a new, but familiar brand identity that holds both of these forces with equal weight. That preserves the historical legacy, but reminds folks it’s not a museum, but an active space and tickets are on sale. The population has grown tremendously in Wilmington and the surrounding counties in the last few years, so the opportunity to grow new audiences and invite them into the cultural home that’s there for them is ripe. Plus, optimizing and polishing all materials along the way for our guests to ensure their user experience is as golden and shiny as Alice, the giant chandelier. This is a contract role with some of my favorite people including CEO Shane Fernando who brought me on from our days opening the Wilson Center. This work has brought a tremendous team together of creative individuals all doing it for the love of the grand dame of the South. There’s still more to do, but we are well on our way.
