ABOUT JULIAN B

Julian is a Ecosystem Hacker, designing long-term transitions across technology, entrepreneurship, & education. His work centers on building pathways that help people and communities move from where they are to where they are trying to go.That approach is shaped by his work as a Thought Leader in Transition Design, Ecosystem Mapping, Start-Up Strategy, & Cyber Security, with a vast array of experience across all four fields. That is what most people know about him. What you may not know is he is a terrible singer & dancer but that doesn\'t stop him from singing embarrassingly loud & at random, while performing dance moves that look differently in his head than it does in real life. Driven by a passion for entrepreneurship, tech talent development, & community building, he stepped down as Chief Information Security Officer at Oakwood University to focus on being a professor, visual storytelling, & advancing community-centered initiatives that support inclusive economic development, accessibility, & mental health.But, let\'s be real. The more accurate reason he stepped down from his CISO role was because he hadn\'t had time to play video games for years because of his dedication to the job, so the moment he realized that he had significantly improved his organization\'s security posture, he knew it was time to dust off the old ps4 & ride off into the sunset.Outside of the many games he is currently enjoying, Julian serves on several boards, including EsportsAL & 57 North Hampton. He has also served as an Expert Evaluator for Black Ambition, Games for Change, the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers, & the Esports Business Summit. Across all of this work, he has dedicated his life to equipping communities around the world with the tools they need to be successful.So what makes Julian so good at what he does? It starts with his guiding principle: “Above all, be helpful.” He leads with that mindset in every role he takes on, whether building ecosystems, teaching future entrepreneurs, or solving complex technical problems. Did I mention that his work includes serving as a lead specialist on NASA’s Data at Rest Security Encryption initiative, an effort that earned national recognition for improving security at scale?There is no shortage of stories & accomplishments tied to Julian aka “Professor Wingman,” but space only allows for a glimpse.
