ABOUT IAN ROBERTSON-CLARK

I was admitted in 1986. I graduated that same year with a Bachelor of Economics, majoring in Accounting, and Honours in Law. I have since completed a Master of Laws. I was a solicitor for 8 years at Aldermans and then Piper Alderman. I joined the independent referral Bar in Adelaide in 1995. From 2006 to 2015 I practised principally from Commercial Chambers in that city. I then practiced from Brian Martin Chambers before that Chambers joined Jeffcott Chambers in 2018. I visit Darwin as required, where I practice from William Forster Chambers. I was appointed Senior Counsel in 2008. I signed the Silks\' Commitment upon its inception and I continue to adhere to its terms (as a bare minimum). I am actively involved in the South Australian Bar Association and I am presently its Immediate Past President. I was formerly the Chair of the Bar Readers’ Executive, which is responsible for the delivery of its Bar Readers\' Course. I am the Chair of the ABA’s Advocacy Training Council and a director of the Australian Advocacy Institute. I am a regular teacher of advocacy for the SABA, ABA and the Australian Advocacy Institute. This includes coaching in Australia and overseas. My practice includes all areas, except in matters of personal criminal law, but principally in general commercial litigation and intellectual property. I have a professional interest in intellectual property, property (including native title) and Equity. I appear in all Courts and Tribunals. I am a mentor in the Aboriginal Law Students Mentoring Program. Some of my thoughts, as delivered to 1Ls at Flinders University in March 2015 follow.
