ABOUT IAIN BOWMAN
Dr. Iain Bowman is a Mechanical Engineer with 34 years’ global and North American experience in all aspects of fire and life safety and tunnel systems. He is based in the UK. From 20••••11 he was with Mott MacDonald in the UK; from 20••••16 he was with Hatch Mott MacDonald in Vancouver, transferring back to Mott MacDonald in March 2016, and returning to the UK in 2024. He has a wide range of experience including tunnel ventilation systems design, analysis, inspection, testing and commissioning and Fire & Life Safety engineering. He is experienced in mechanical engineering design / analysis, 3D design and analysis (BIM), and management of large multidisciplinary projects.Iain also has extensive experience of performance-based fire engineering, global and North American fire safety standards including NFPA 502 and NFPA130, smoke control system design, fire safety of rolling stock, design of fire mains and automated fire suppression systems, design assurance processes, fire safety planning for flammable products handling facilities, BIM methodologies, computer aided design (CAD), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA), and general mechanical engineering across a diverse range of sectors, including buildings, aerospace, defence, telecommunications, automotive, fire safety and transportation, and electrical power generation.Iain currently serves on the Technical Committee for the NFPA 502 Standard for Road Tunnels, Bridges, and Other Limited Access Highways.
