ABOUT HAYLEY SERPA
I am a historian and social scientist of science, medicine, and international development in the Andes and Global South. My research deconstructs the assumptions humans, communities, nations, and international organizations make when we view and use science and medicine as tools for modernization or development. I am currently Project Coordinator at the University of Miami Libraries for an ongoing oral history project documenting the life stories of migrant Latino farmworkers in Florida. As a first-generation low-income Peruvian-American, I am passionate about how my work can positively impact other students like me. I am committed to diversity in all fields of study and am collaborating on a project with the US Agency for International Development to create a new generation of development diplomats.
