ABOUT HARRY PETCH

2x BAFTA Young Game Designers - Game Making Category nominee (2016, 2019) BAFTA Young Game Designers Mentor Award Winner 2021 BAFTA Games \'Games Beyond Entertainment\' Jury 2022 Abertay Digital Graduate Show 2024 - Outplay Gameplay and Systems Award Winner I have been developing rapid game prototypes since 2016 primarily in Unity, Unreal, and GameMaker, as I am interested in generating unique game concepts for character controllers and proving them through prototyping. Since joining Abertay, I have taken part in QA Testing opportunities, including DARE Academy 2021 finalist game \'Beats of Dischordia\' and Puny Astronaut\'s 2023 \'Skye Tales\'. I have had success in my early career as an experienced Applied Games designer, from incorporating asynchronous multiplayer in \'Net Carbon\' to encourage themes of global responsibility, to combining mindfulness, Metroidvania and Animal Crossing in award-winning \'The Healing Tree\'. I am looking for opportunities that could expand my scope as a designer for commercial content, or explore more serious games themes as sources for empathy through gameplay. My work as a practitioner directly informs my work as an advocate for the BAFTA Young Game Designers scheme and game design focused workshops for young people, which started as a local school club and has since evolved through consultancy given during the inception of the Into Games Club. I am registered on the Video Games Ambassadors network and have delivered talks about Abertay\'s games offerings and my own pathway through games with high-value advice. Experience in co-ordinating small teams:\'Spirit Cleaning\', developed from December 2020-January 2021, has had a very positive reception with over downloads and a social media presence of over views on YouTube.\'Net Carbon\', developed and maintained from August-October 2021, provided valuable experience in developing a game for a client at an industry-standard with a short deadline, and is a part of SSE Thermal\'s Green Zone presence at COP26 (2021) in Glasgow.\'The Healing Tree\', developed from January-May 2023, as the mechanics designer and programming team lead to create engaging gameplay systems based on mindfulness motifs, and a winner of the Bronze award in the Student category of the International Serious Play Awards 2023.
