Qissa is a storytelling platform that documents, archives, and exhibits oral histories of immigrants to Canada. Telling the stories of immigrants in their own voices, Qissa challenges the western gaze through which stories of immigrants are framed. Starting as an artistic collective in 2020, Qissa incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2024.In 2024 Qissa collaborated with the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 for the project ‘Driving Canada: A Front Seat View of Immigration Through Uber.’ This initiative included video recording the oral histories of individuals who are currently, or have previously driven for Uber in Canada. By capturing these stories, the project aimed to document, archive, and highlight the diverse experiences of immigrants, using Uber as a unique entry point into their journeys in Canada. In the summer of 2025, Qissa collaborated with World Education Services to develop a pop-up exhibition based on the project, and is now designing a digital exhibition supported by Digital Muesums Canada. In March 2026, Qissa will also host its inaugural Newcomer & Refugee Literary Festival at Small World Music, which would bring together newcomer writers, publishers, and arts organizations to spotlight diverse literary voices and reimagine how Canada engages with immigrant storytelling. Our work spans multimedia exhibitions, travelling displays, publications, and performances—all aimed at weaving immigrant experiences into Canada’s cultural narrative.
