As General Manager – Shipping and Chartering, I am responsible for leading and overseeing all shipping, chartering, and logistics activities for the Company’s import and export operations across a diverse fleet. My role ensures the timely, cost-efficient, and safe transportation of commodities to international markets, with critical impact on meeting the Company’s targets, export performance, and contractual sales commitments.Key Responsibilities:Freight Strategy and Negotiation:Develop and implement freight procurement strategies aligned with market trends and sales requirements. Lead negotiations for freight rates and charter party terms, and build strong relationships with shipowners, brokers, agents, and market participants.Shipping Planning and Scheduling:Manage vessel scheduling to align with production and cargo readiness. Coordinate with mine site teams, port operators, and marine teams for vessel bookings and cargo availability to ensure customer delivery commitments.Operations Management:Oversee loading and discharge operations, ensuring compliance with contractual, safety, and regulatory requirements. Monitor vessel performance, manage laytime and freight payment processes, and drive efficiency in port operations.Risk Management:Review, negotiate, and manage charter party agreements. Identify and mitigate freight market risks and operational challenges, ensuring vessel and operational compliance.Performance and Reporting:Track freight market trends and operational performance, reporting to Executives. Provide guidance to site and operational teams, and drive continuous improvement initiatives for enhanced efficiency, reduced costs, and improved service quality.Additionally, I lead and develop a high-performing team, providing supervision, mentorship, and support to ensure excellence across all areas of shipping and chartering.
