ABOUT GREG BOOTHROYD

Greg is a driving force behind Patkau Architects, one of Canada’s most creative design studios. A true generalist, Greg provides design leadership from the inception of projects to their completion. Greg began his architecture career unceremoniously with a rejection letter from Patricia Patkau, Chair of UBC Architecture’s Admissions Committee. He was eventually admitted, and finished his degree on better terms with a graduation project under Patricia’s mentorship. Upon graduation, Greg received the prestigious RAIC Gold Medal for the highest level of academic excellence / outstanding thesis. Since joining Patkau Architects in 1997, Greg has led a tremendous variety of projects, from exquisitely detailed residences to landmark institutional buildings. Characterized by simple, elegant solutions to complex problems, Greg’s ability to identify unique opportunities and develop thoughtful architectural responses is a skill that continues to distinguish his career. A firm believer in collaboration, Greg’s ability to lead large multifaceted teams and diverse stakeholder groups has contributed significantly to his success across Canada.Recent and Ongoing Experience-UBC School of Biomedical Engineering (a sq ft research lab, collab with A49)-UBC Sauder School of Business (a sq ft academic expansion, collab with Acton Ostry Architects)-University of Toronto Academic Wood Tower (a 14-storey academic wood tower, collab with MJMA)-BCIT’s Concert Centre for Trades and Technology (a sf multipurpose building, collab with A49)-Kiweki Point (a promontory structure and bridge in Ottawa, collab with Janet Rosenberg Studio)-Fraser Mills Presentation Centre (a unique wood structure in Coquitlam)
