As a CDM Principal Designer and Advisor at Baily Garner LLP, I lead the integration of health and safety into the design and delivery of construction and refurbishment projects across both public and private sectors. My role is pivotal in ensuring that projects are not only compliant with CDM 2015 regulations but also proactively managed to reduce risk from the earliest stages.I work closely with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to embed safety into the design process, facilitating design risk reviews and workshops that identify and mitigate foreseeable hazards. I take ownership of the Principal Designer duties, ensuring that design risk management is documented and communicated effectively throughout the project lifecycle.My responsibilities include the preparation and review of Pre-Construction Information (PCI), Construction Phase Plans (CPP), and Health & Safety Files, ensuring that all documentation supports safe project execution. I also advise clients on their legal duties under CDM, helping them develop practical strategies for compliance and risk management.Through regular site inspections and audits, I monitor contractor performance, identify non-conformances, and support continuous improvement in safety culture. By fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, I help deliver projects that are not only compliant but also exemplify best practice in construction health and safety.
