ABOUT GEORGY DAVIS

Project Manager with over 15 years of community based renewable energy development experience including 6 years of International Development experience working in Sub Saharan Africa and over 9 years of experience in developing and supporting community energy projects within Scotland.Until recently I was leading on not for profit energy supplier, Our Powers partnerships with community organisations and local authorities. There were 5 working partnerships in place covering the Western Isles, Hartlepool, Bath and West, the Isles of Scilly and the South of England. Previous to this I managed the innovative Tower Power project on behalf of Community Energy Scotland which partners with Our Power, Energy Local, TMA, The City of Edinburgh Council and Glasgow City Council. The objective of Tower Power is to aggregate (or pool together) electricity demand from individual residents, to enable negotiation of cheaper electricity prices for whole blocks of housing. Similar to what currently happens on large commercial sites (ports, airports etc) where all the demand is recorded behind a single meter. Tower Power uses smart meters to enable residents in a tower block to aggregate their energy demand and collectively negotiate a price for energy through a half hourly energy supply contract. The project is driven by the need to reduce fuel poverty in urban areas. Before this I was Programme Manager (20••••15) for the Community Energy Development Programme in Malawi. It is one of the four strands of the \'Malawi Renewable Energy Acceleration Programme\'; its focus in on community ownership of sustainable energy systems in off grid areas of Malawi, a country with mass deforestation and where only 7% of the population have access to electricity. The programme directly benefitted the lives of over rural Malawians.
