ABOUT FRANCESCO SALA

I am an Electrical Engineer with 8 years of international experience in Business Development, Energy Storage Project Structuring, and Energy Markets Regulation, with a strong specialization in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).Since January 2025, I serve as Market Development Manager for Southern Europe at Fluence, where I lead policy engagement, market strategy, and business development initiatives to accelerate the deployment of advanced energy storage solutions across the region.Previously, from 2021 to 2025, I worked at Enel Green Power within the Energy Storage Business Development unit, focusing on storage business model structuring for the Italian and U.S. markets. During this time, I contributed to the final investment approval of 2.5 GW of BESS projects across Italy, the U.S, and Greece. In 2023, I completed a Master in Business Development at SDA Bocconi.Before joining Enel, I was part of Terna, the Italian transmission system operator, where I worked on electricity market design and regulation. I contributed to the implementation of the Italian capacity market and to the design of the first auction for energy storage under the Fast Reserve pilot.I hold both a BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Smart Grids from Politecnico di Milano, and I am an alumnus of the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden (Erasmus exchange).
