ABOUT FIONA HOLMES

I\'ve enjoyed a varied career working in the public, private and third sectors and moved into communications when I relocated to Edinburgh from London over 20 years ago. I\'ve worked on PR campaigns for Historic Scotland, CLAN Edinburgh (the city’s literacy and numeracy partnership project), Bright Grey and Scottish Provident (now Royal London) and social enterprise charity, Firstport. It hasn\'t all been about comms though. My career began in London’s West End working at the Victoria Palace Theatre and the Cambridge Theatre as a dresser. I went on to work for BBC Television initially working for the costume department. It was a fun job working in the studio and on location. But one Saturday morning while ironing a dinner suit for the puppet, Gordon the Gopher, I decided it was time to move on. Or at least move departments (no offence Gordon). And following a successful interview I transferred to BBC’s news information and picture research unit. The rest is history as they say. Travel has also been an important part of my personal development and I\'ve worked and travelled in Israel, Australia, East and Southern Africa. The experiences there inspired my voluntary work with the Scottish based charity ‘Smalls for All’.
