Erica Lauren Ortiz leads Advocacy & Governance Programs at Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national service organization for nonprofit theater. In 2025, she designed and led a field-wide rapid response to proposed federal funding cuts, mobilizing messages to Congress in support of federal arts funding and policies that uplift artists.Key highlights of her advocacy leadership include:• Responsive Programming: Produced and Moderated “Arts Advocacy 2025: What’s Next and What Now?”—a rapid-response national briefing attended by over registrants • Legislative Action Campaigns: Generated 4,100+ letters to Congress in support of the National Endowment for the Arts through integrated strategies combining email, digital toolkits, and creative media (including a targeted Instagram takeover)• Arts Advocacy Week: Designed and programmed a full week of events, covering topics such as Advocacy 101, Artist Visas & International Exchange, Trans Visibility in the Arts, and Risk-Taking & Legal Risk Assessment in partnership with legal expertsShe also introduced new communication tools like \"Three Things to Know\"—a rapid advocacy briefing format that equips busy arts leaders with timely insights and actions. Erica actively partners with Americans for the Arts, the Cultural Advocacy Group, and the National Council of Nonprofits, while advising theatre leadership and member theaters on strategic policy positioning, civic visibility, and effective governance.
