ABOUT EMILY SUTTER
My name is Emily Sutter, and I am a current senior at KU. I’m from Omaha, Nebraska, and am studying Sports Media with a minor in Spanish. I am graduating this May, and am actively looking for career opportunities in social media and broadcast production in the sports industry.Throughout my time at KU, I have enjoyed learning a variety of skills, and have developed a passion for sports broadcasting and sideline reporting. I pride myself on my variety of experience, making me a versatile sports journalist. I have been involved with production in our journalism school all four years of college while also balancing sports media jobs and internships.I work for CBS Sports as an operations assistant during the men’s college basketball season, assisting talent, crew members and associate producers with game day operations. My internship at Hurrdat Sports in Omaha, Nebraska has allowed me to create my own short-form pieces about the MCWS and WCWS, AWSL softball, and more. I’ve learned how to use my quick interview skills, eye for interesting content and editing abilities to succeed in this role. Through my production experience producing, being behind the camera, and an on-camera talent, I have been able to diversify my skill set as an aspiring sports journalist with Playmakers KU. I’ve covered KU men’s basketball and football, volleyball through social media sideline reporting.I am also an intern with WIBW-TV in Topeka, where I am helping the sports team create content, and serve as a reporter in the newsroom. I am passionate about live production, and am gaining experience with the sports team by helping with their weekly show, ‘The Drive.’
