ABOUT EMILY SMITH-REID

I’m an executive leadership team member and C-suite advisor, bringing breadth of perspective from cross-sector, multi-disciplinary experience spanning 20+ years. I’m valued for my ability to ask the difficult questions in a collaborative way, to help navigate novel issues and complex regulatory environments and for being a strong strategic partner. I excel in simplifying complexity and enabling balanced risk-taking. As a people leader, I’m known for being open and authentic, for championing inclusion and for my focus on continuous improvement. I also have a strong record in developing and attracting talent.I’m also an experienced non-exec, having chaired the board of the Consortium for Street Children from 2020 to 2024 and been a trustee since 2018. I recruited CEOs, honed the strategy, strengthened the board and the risk management processes, guided through a successful merger and a US incorporation, dealt with safeguarding and helped with fundraising.In my previous role at HSBC as Global Head of Competition Law, I built the team and designed the global compliance and risk mitigation structures from scratch across all HSBC’s business lines globally. I also advised executive management and lead the strategy for defending major competition regulatory investigations globally. Previously I was a senior member of the British Telecom legal team. Whilst at BT I also spent c. 3 years working outside the legal field, with roles in strategic business development and corporate strategy. I trained and qualified at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, advising blue chip clients across diverse industry sectors out London, Singapore and Washington, DC
