ABOUT ED MISHRELL

Ed began his career in Philadelphia where he served as a, Childcare Director, Senior Citizen Center Director, Teen Director, Youth Employment Director and Community Center Director. In 1987 he joined the national office of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. At BGCA he held numerous positions and led the development of several national strategic initiatives including bridging the digital divide, outcome measurement, executive leadership, deepening impact and assuring public trust. He led the creation of the Spillett Leadership University and the Executive Advanced Leadership Program in collaboration with noted author and thought leader Dr. Noel Tichy of the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. The impact of this program was documented in an article published in McKinsey Quarterly. As Chief Strategy Officer for Boys & Girls Clubs of America from 2010 – 2019, Ed worked closely with Club board and professional leaders, BGCA staff and National Board Members to lead the development and adoption of the Boys & Girls Club Movement’s strategic and operating plans. He has led hundreds of professional development programs, spoken at numerous regional and national conferences and authored several articles and program resources used by professional staff and board members at local Boys & Girls Clubs. This includes booklets and resources to guide hiring practices, ethics, financial management, ensuring accurate data, measuring outcomes, supervision, and leadership development. When Ed retired from BGCA he served as an adjunct faculty member for the Master of Public Administration program at the Andrew Young School of Social Policy at Georgia State University. His first book, Five Truths for Transformational Leaders, was published in 2023 by John Wiley and Sons.
