ABOUT DRAKE SHRADER

I’m the Executive Director of United Youth Theatre (UYT), a South Bend–based nonprofit I co-founded to help every child gain confidence, foster creativity, and develop mutual trust and respect through the arts. As a proud South Bend native and Clay High School graduate, I’ve dedicated my career to empowering young people and expanding access to meaningful arts education.My journey in youth development and theatre started in high school, where I found my passion for storytelling, mentorship, and the transformative power of the arts. Since launching UYT, I’ve directed numerous full-length productions and worked with hundreds of young performers across Michiana. My philosophy as a director is simple: I’m not here to send you to Broadway—I’m here to help you grow as leaders and develop skills you’ll use for the rest of your life. I believe the arts build essential life skills—communication, teamwork, problem-solving, resilience, confidence, and leadership—that serve young people far beyond the stage.From 2016 to 2021, I served as UYT’s Artistic Director, leading the planning and execution of our annual season of shows. Now, as Executive Director, I oversee fundraising, strategic planning, program development, and community partnerships, while still working closely with the students who make UYT what it is. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Indiana University and a Master of Nonprofit Administration (MNA) from the University of Notre Dame.At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to helping young people thrive. I’m passionate about creating opportunities for kids to grow, discover their strengths, and build the confidence to take on the world both on and off the stage.
