ABOUT GORDON WATSON
A Principal Electrical Engineering Consultant who completed his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering in September 2015 and since has moved into the consulting industry. Extensive experience with simulation packages EMTP ATP, DIgSILENT, MatLAB Simulink and PLECs. Extensive experience in connection of renewables to the distribution network and transmission grid and familiarity of the technical and regulatory challenges of doing so. Experience in design and building a power electronic converter experimental prototype (matrix converter). This was implemented with a sophisticated control system that required bespoke code to use an off-the-shelf microcontroller. Experience in root-cause-analysis of solar farms. Journal paper published in an IET journal. Attendance/presentations at IET and CIGRE conferences. Report writing including simply conveying technical concepts and taking into consideration the reader\'s perspective. At TNEI Gordon is working as part of the Innovation and Networks team, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with our electrical networks. Gordon has personally worked on network innovation projects in electric vehicles, battery storage systems, tidal and wave energy, and wind ancillary services.
