Each summer, I am contracted to examine for one of the papers in the AQA GCSE in English Language qualification. The skills I have developed include: strict adherence to deadlines-I am contracted to mark 300 scripts in line with assessment practises as defined by mark scheme and standardisation criteria. self-reflection and accountability-I am required, at the start of each summer, to engage with standardisation to align my own practises with set mark scheme and responded to feedback from lead examiner. continuous professional development-this process constantly feeds into my own practice as a GCSE English and Functional Skills teacher through helping me to understand the relevant skills my students need to in order to achieve a high grade in the subsequent exam series. time management-because this contract takes place during my normal teaching time, I must meet my marking deadlines while also fulfilling my career obligations.
